Zara Testimonial

Store Colleague: Zara, Senior Supervisor, Essex

“I joined Iceland as a cashier. Once I was able to commit to more hours it wasn’t long before I became a Duty Manager and then shortly after that I had the opportunity to become a Supervisor at another store and am now a Senior Supervisor. I loved the on-the-job training as I’m not really a classroom learner and have really enjoyed the challenges and learnings. Along the way I’ve also become a colleague rep too.

Being able to support and help colleagues with home or work problems is something I am passionate about. Over time, managers have become friends and colleagues become your family. I can’t imagine myself working anywhere else.”

Sally Testimonial

Store Colleague: Sally, Store Manager, West Yorkshire

“I was attracted by Iceland’s ethics and way of doing business as well as the emphasis on working as a ‘family’. I saw first-hand there was transparency and honesty from the business leaders. They would take responsibility for decisions, they would listen to what colleagues were telling them and best of all they’d act on it. I entered a Dragon’s Den style competition and not only was I invited to pitch an idea, but I won!

It was an amazing opportunity, but even more exciting is seeing my idea rolled out through the business. Honestly, if you want to work somewhere where you’re not just a number, and are not afraid of hard work, then there is no place better.”

Oliver Testimonial

Deeside: Oliver Gilding, Trading Manager, Exclusive Brands, Deeside

“I came to Iceland two and a half years ago as a Category Assistant on the final secondment of my graduate placement. Two months in, I was asked to stay and work with exclusive brands which covers frozen, grocery and chilled. I love the fact that this role can create real change and influence +4 million customers a week.

It’s also a real buzz to be in a culture that appreciate and welcomes talent and ambition and work with hugely talented team-mates.”

Talking Shop

We give colleagues the opportunity to feed back to the owners of the company. This can be done through their elected Talking Shop Rep – every store has one – or through organised events designed to give our colleagues a platform to be heard. These include regional listening groups, Live Q&As on our social media platform, as well as regular conferences and roadshows.

Den of Disruption

We also run ideas generating competitions where colleagues can pitch their ideas to the directors to win cash prizes.

Doing it Right Awards

2023 saw the first of our annual Doing It Right Awards where we recognise and celebrate the achievements of colleagues who go above and beyond in their role.
